As mentioned in the last UMID unboxing article, a new user interface (UI) for Windows operating system has been included in the 3G version of UMID mbook M1-321EWE (M1 3G).
The new UI called Media Pot is provided by "Thepot Limited" still in DEMO version.
Media Pot is similar to Asus Eee PC Linux UI.
It is incorparated with ten large icons connecting to different applications.
Music: Music player and music files management Video: Video player and video files management DMB: Digital TV player Photo: Picture viewer that support touch gesture and picture files management DVD/Audio: Not yet sure the function. Read ISO image? Dictionary: Not yet available in this Engineering unit iPod: Connect iPod and listen music from iPod/iPod nano... Setting: Language, The POT wallpaper...settting Bluetooth: Connect to IVT BlueSoleil Internet Explorer: Connect to Internel Explorer
The media files are all located in C:/media directory.
You may simply put your media file into each sub-directory.
The following video demo was recorded by me.
You may find some of the icon still not functioning.
You may have a more detail review on Media Pot by UMID's official demo
Features of Media Pot:
1. Video player supports on-screen sliding fast forward
2. Photo player supports touch screen photos swap
3. iPod function is great. Songs and album are all support
4. Music player also support on-screen fast forward and slide-to-swap songs
5. Standby mode similar to viliv S5 just-on function
HD video playback
The platform of UMID M1 3G is Menlow. That means it is using a US15W as chipset. US15W supports high-definition (HD) hardward decoding. If we use a proper codec and player, the hardward decoding of M1 3G can be activated.
Here, JOE trys to use Pure Codec as example. By simply choosing "Play mode - HDTV (PowerDVD DXVA)" in Decode Mode and click "OK".
The you may activate the hardward decode of US15W and give you the follow result.
All 480p, 720p and 1080p HD video in full screen playing give only 2X% CPU loading.
Video playback is very smooth!!
It is noted that the codec setting is very important. PowerDVD decoder is known to have US15W hardware support and sometimes the player is also important.
In the above demo, I am using KMPlayer. If changed to Window Media Classic, no hardward support! It is only happen occasionally. WMC works fine in other US15W device. You are better try different setting to unlock the hardware decoding.
