Last Friday, we had held an "aigo MID Gathering" at Mongkok letting our member to try and feel this new mobile device!
Two days ago, I got this MID on my hand. I keep my greatest patience to avoid to touch it because I have to finish the U2010 review before start the next review! Today, here in Hong Kong, the No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal is in force (no need to work ^o^ ). So that I've got enough time to finish the U2010 reviews and starting this aigo MID hands-on!!
First Impression
I have to say aigo MID P8860 is very stylish and compact (just like what I commented on the grey-version of aigo MID)! This white version, I think is more beautiful and shiny! Size is small and the thickness is very thin (22mm)!
The housing is china-like plastic (it is plastic, I can prove to you latter ~~"). Shiny and smooth (I can prove too) but does not shiny as Eee PC 901.
Hence, it does not a fingerprint collector. Even so, there is a cleaning cloth proved to keep clean!
P8860 is a 4.8" screen MID, so that the length or size is fit to be held on the palms.
The 310g weight is very light and does not feel heavy even holding for a long time!
This white-version has a big different from the grey-version I played months ago!
1. Intel Atom Z500 800MHz processor, 4GB SSD, 512Mb of RAM, 300K webcam are the same. but...
2. Midinux OS is finished and much much better than the engineering device
3. Response is much much better
4. Video playback is much much better
5. Casing is changed to a shiny plastic
but...
6. 3M pixel camera is taken away
7. HSDPA module is taken away
8. 8Gb SSD does not be promised
9. larger size of RAM does not be promised
10. GPS still un-functional as no suitable GPS Map for Linux
11. Bios is locked, that means not easy to install Windows!!
Midinux
The Midinux version of this retail version is AG.030.5002. Midinux is a linux platform for MID invented by China's company - RED FLAG. I found the interface of Midinux is quite user friendly. With the touch screen, it is quite easy to control the device. The touch feature is sensitive (better than last version) and the sliding feature is also sensitive!
To me, multimedia and browsing function are the most important! and I found both of this functions are well organized and pretty good performance.
But of course, it is not Windows based OS, there will be still some difficulty to get used to and trade off.
Unboxing
Apart from my friends Pauliu's photo unboxing, let enjoy my video unboxing on P8860.
